Professor Mariko Kawano, BA (University of Tokyo), MA (University of Tokyo) and LL. M. (University of Cambridge) is a Professor of International Law at the Faculty of Law, Waseda University (Tokyo, Japan). She was Assistant Professor and Associate Professor of International Law at the Institute of Social Sciences, University of Tsukuba and a visiting fellow at the University of Paris II (Panthéon-Assas).
She has conducted research, mainly, in peaceful settlement of international disputes, international law of the sea, international responsibility of States, and international investment law.
She gave a special course in the Hague Academy of International Law on “The Role of Judicial Procedures in the Process of the Pacific Settlement of International Disputes” in 2009.
She also works with ministries as the Chairperson of the Consultative Committee on Maritime Affairs and the Member of the Council on Customs, Tariff, Foreign Exchange and Other Transactions, Ministry of Finance, etc.
